Arsenic impact forum opened in Hanoi

Arsenic impacts on health of Vietnamese people and International concern over the problem was high on the agenda of a scientific forum held in Hanoi on July 17.
The forum, co-chaired by Princess Chulaborn of Thailand and scientists from Vietnam, the US, the Republic of Korea and Thailand, aims to map out international cooperation projects for preventing Arsenic pollution in water sources, protecting people’s health in Vietnam and international community.
Scientists featured at the forum Arsenic problem in Vietnam and regional countries and discussed together cooperative solutions to reduce the substance’s adverse impacts on the environment and people’s health, especially the health of mothers and children.
Minister of Health, Nguyen Quoc Trieu, said that over the past years the Princess’s Chulaborn research institute has helped Vietnam in scientific research, environment protection and protection of people’s health.
The Princess noted that Arsenic problem is deeply concerned in Thailand , Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam. The substance causes pollution to environment and cancers to millions of people around the world.-
