Viettel expands market into Laos

Hanoi (VNA) – The army-run telecommunication company Viettel has officially established operations in Laos through the Star Telecom Company.
The Star Telecom Company is a joint-venture between Lao-Asia Telecommunication and Vietnamese Viettel Global, a subsidiary company of Viettel Corporation, with the hope of attracting more than 1.5 million customers across Laos by 2010.
Chairman of the Executive Board of Star Telecom Company Oulaha Thongvantha said on Oct. 12 the company has spent 35 million USD to build 1,200 stations across the country.
By the end of this year, when the stations are expected to be completed, the Star Telecom Company also hopes to become the leading provider of mobile services, telephones and other forms of telecommunications services in the Lao market.-
