Cambodia: Opposition party leader defects to CPP

– Keo Ramy, vice president of Cambodia’s second largest opposition party (HRP), has defected to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).

“I decide to join CPP after I have opposed it for over 20 years,” said the 45-year-old former leader of the Human Right Party on October 7.

“We can see that through the general election on July 27. CPP won 90 of the 123 seats at the National Assembly. More (and more) people support CPP and I follow the decision of people,” he added.

During the election, HRP won three seats, but Ramy failed to secure a seat as candidate for the Phnom Penh electoral constituency.

Ramy once served the co-ruling FUNCINPEC Party and the major opposition Sam Rainsy Party and later joined his friends to establish HRP.-

Cambodia: CPP passes new gov’t structure

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian Hun Sen Prime Minister and elected parliamentarians of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) have passed a list of new cabinet members to be submitted to the National Assembly for approval on September 24.

The new government structure will be remained unchanged with 25 ministries and an office of council of ministers, said Cambodian spokesman Khieu Kanharith on September 22.

The CPP will hold the posts of minister at all ministries while its partner in the ruling alliance, FUNCINPEC, will hold the posts of secretary of state and deputy secretary of state at some ministries.

Cambodia’s National Assembly (fourth tenure) will gather on September 24 to elect NA’s president and vice presidents, as well as chairmen of its committee.-

Cambodia: CPP set to take most NA posts

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), which won a landslide victory in the July 27 general election, will occupy the posts of the National Assembly (NA) president and deputy president, as well as the chairmanships of each of its nine commissions.

The NA reshuffle would reflect the CPP’s dominance at the polls, Cambodian government spokesman and Ministry of Information Khieu Kanharith was quoted by local media as saying.

He added that the new NA would avoid the political deadlock that paralysed the government following the 2003 election.

In the outgoing NA, the CPP heads five commissions, while FUNCINPEC chairs two posts and the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) another two.-

Cambodia: CPP to offer gov’t posts to FUNCINPEC

– The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) will offer five high-level posts and some lower level positions for the FUNCINPEC party in the upcoming coalition government, Prime Minister Hun Sen has said.

The high-level posts will belong to FUNCINPEC General Secretary Nhiek Bun Chhay, Health Minister Nuth Sokhum, Public Works and Transportation Minister Sun Chanthol, Education, Youth and Sports Minister Kol Pheng, and Culture and Fine Arts Minister Veng Sereyvuth, PM Hun Sen revealed.

All decisions of the new government will be made by the CPP, he stressed.

According to preliminary results, the CPP has won the country’s July 27 general election with 90 seats in the 123-member National Assembly. –

FUNCINPEC ready to form coalition with CPP

The FUNCINPEC Party said on July 30 that it is ready to form a coalition government with the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), which is projected to gain victory in the July 27’s poll.

FUNCINPEC also said that recent announcement by its deputy chairman Si So Wath Si Ri Rath to set up an alliance with the country’s three other political parties, not recognise the general election’s results, and request to have a re-election, is not FUNCINPEC’s official point of view.

According to primary results published by Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC), the CPP won 90 seats in the 123-member National Assembly, while main opposition Sam Rainsy Party secured 26 seats.

The Human Rights Party gained three seats while the Norodom Ranariddh Party and FUNCINPEC, with each snatched two seats.

Previously, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that in the case his party wins the elections, the party could lead the country without a coalition with any party.-

Cambodians urged to vote for CPP Party

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Coordinating Committee (KKKCC) has called on the entire Cambodian people, particularly the Khmer Krom, to support and vote for the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).

KKKCC Chairman Kim Van Chheng said that the CPP under the leadership of three leaders Chea Sim, Hun Sen and Heng Somrin has led Cambodia on the way of further stability and development, thus helping improve the people’s living conditions.

The committee called on more than 13 million Khmer people, including Khmer Krom -an ethnic minority group in Cambodia- to cast their ballots for the CPP to ensure the nation’s sustainable development.-
